Addressing domestic and family violence remains one of the most complex and urgent challenges facing both society and policing. The NSW Police Force recognises the critical importance of strengthening its approach to combat domestic and family violence and is dedicated to enhancing its response to better protect the community. For frontline police, domestic and family violence represents the most frequent type of incident they attend, averaging more than 500 callouts each day. Officers are often the first point of contact for victim-survivors seeking safety and support, and their commitment plays a vital role in ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.
The DFV Guidelines reflect NSW Police Force policy and are the key publicly available document. They provide information for stakeholders and the community of NSW regarding the roles and responsibilities of the NSW Police Force in responding to and managing DFV incidents.
