The 16 Days of Activism is an internationally recognised campaign against gender-based violence. It runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and until 10 December (Human Rights Day).

This year, the NSW Police Force theme for the 16 Days of Activism is young people.

This theme is two-fold:

  • The first is the impact on young people when they are exposed to violence in the home. Research has consistently found that being exposed to domestic and family violence in the home is one of the most accurate predictors of a young person progressing to be a victim or perpetrator of violence later in life.
  • The second is young people navigating their own peer relationships, with the aim of equipping them to call out their peers on disrespectful behaviour.

Throughout 16 Days of Activism, the New South Wales Police Force (NSWPF) are collaborating with Rotary, local councils, and support services to raise awareness through walks, morning teas, school presentations, and stalls at community days.

If you or someone you know needs help, support is available.
