Family Support
The NSWPF Family Support Team provide emotional support, practical guidance, helpful resources, and appropriate referrals for NSW Police Force employees and their immediate family. The team offer compassionate and empathetic care, with a deep understanding of the nature of Policing and the impact on loved ones, this helps foster resilience and enhance wellbeing outcomes.

How is support provided?
Family Support Officers work in close collaboration with internal and external services to ensure families and employees are aware of the support available to them. This includes building stronger networks, improving coping skills, and accessing entitlements. The service offers confidential conversations via phone, a quarterly newsletter for subscribed family members and employees, and relevant resources where applicable.
Who can access Family Support?

All NSWPF employees—sworn and civilian—and their immediate family members, including those living in the same household and parents residing in Australia. If you are unsure of your eligibility, please contact Family Support for clarification. The Family Support service is available to all former NSWPF employees for 5 years from their date of disengagement from employment with NSW Police Force.
Your Privacy Is Respected
All contact with Family Support is confidential. Information is not shared with the employee’s Command, supervisor, or colleagues unless there is a mandatory reporting obligation—such as risk of harm or serious misconduct.
Connecting with NSWPF employees and their families
Family Support Newsletter – quarterly newsletter, providing tips, and information about support services for NSWPF employees and their family, and family-friendly competitions to enter.
Family Connect Days - held by Commands for Probationary Constables and their family members. The attendance of NSWPF Family Support provides an opportunity to get to know the team behind the service.
Events - Family Support can also attend training days, Command award ceremonies, and events involving family members.

Employee Assistance Program

EAP is provided by an external provider with access to skilled clinicians across the state. EAP offers a range of support services for all NSWPF employees and their immediate family members. Support available includes free, confidential short-term counselling, specialty services related to lifestyle challenges and speciality helplines. Crisis counselling is available 24/7. Family Counselling (EAP)
An external support service that provides counselling for families of NSWPF employees who require support across personal and/ or lifestyle concerns. Available during normal business hours, via face to face (subject to location and accessibility), phone or video link.
Crisis Counselling
Crisis counselling is available over the phone 24/7 and offers immediate, support for individuals facing urgent personal or work-related challenges. Contact 1300 667 197 and ask to speak with a clinician immediately.
EAP Services
Beyond counselling, there are several services addressing lifestyle challenges and stressors, NSWPF Employees are eligible to receive a number of sessions for each service category.
Financial Coaching
Financial coaching and education service to help improve financial wellbeing for NSWPF employees. Service available during normal business hours via phone or video link.
Career Coaching
Career planning, resume and job search advice, interview skills, and career counselling for NSWPF employees and immediate family members. Service available during normal business hours via phone or video link.
Nutrition and Lifestyle
Advice across nutrition, resilience, mindfulness, sleep, and positive lifestyle changes for NSWPF employees and immediate family members. available during normal business hours via phone or video link. Contact 1300 667 197 and ask for Nutrition and Lifestyle.
Conflict Support
Tailored strategies, tools and coaching to help individuals resolve workplace and personal conflicts effectively. Service available during normal business hours via phone or video link to all NSWPF employees and immediate family members.
Legal Support
Provides valuable guidance in key areas and the resources and insights necessary to take informed next steps, empowering you to make informed decisions. Legal Support does not offer direct legal advice and is not available for criminal matters or matters involving the NSWPF workplace. Service available during normal business hours via phone or video link.

Specialist Helplines
Specialist phone support available to assist with referrals to external services, information and resources. Use of a specialist helpline does not impact your allocated EAP sessions. Service available during normal business hours via phone.
LQBTQI+ Helpline: 1300 542 874
Speak with a specialist counsellor and access support across issues specific to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and/or Aromantic people. You can also discuss referrals to specialised services and access to general information and resources.
Domestic and Family Violence Helpline: 1300 338 465
Discuss issues with a specialist counsellor and access support around domestic and family violence, including access to counselling, referral to specialist services and assistance with planning for safety at work and home.
Disability and Carers Helpline: 1300 243 543
Consult with a counsellor to access specialised advice on disability support, as well as emotional support around caring for family members or friends who live with a disability.
Aged Care Support Helpline: 1300 035 337
Access advice on aged care issues, referral to specialist resources, and emotional support when caring for family members or friends.
Young People and Young Adults Helpline: 1300 687 399
Access age-sensitive support focusing on the emotional needs and psychological pressures many young Australians and students face daily.
Spiritual and Pastoral Care Helpline: 1300 772 435
Speak with a counsellor who will help you draw on spiritual resources suitable to your faith journey. We have counsellors from all major faith traditions and every major Christian denomination trained to integrate spirituality as an essential aspect of wellbeing.

Support around indigenous issues. A safe space is provided for you to talk to someone who can empathise with your issues and provide support.

Chaplaincy

Chaplains provide confidential pastoral and spiritual care to current and former NSWPF employees and their families. Chaplains can provide confidential support to employees and family members seeking support at home or in hospital; assistance after a tough or traumatic day; a ceremony or remembrance; or simply a friendly face, regardless of personal belief.

Personalised cancer support programs for NSWPF employees and immediate family impacted by a cancer diagnosis. Programs include education, emotional support, and evidence-based strategies delivered by oncologists, to enhance wellbeing and support participants throughout their cancer journey.
