Tattoo parlours
On 29 May 2012 a new law was introduced, which requires body art tattoo parlour operators and body art tattooists to obtain a licence from NSW Fair Trading under the Tattoo Parlours Act 2012.
The new licensing scheme does not apply to cosmetic tattoo service providers.
Licence applications now open
Licence applications can be lodged with NSW Fair Trading from 1 February 2013. Applications can be lodged either online, by mail, or over the counter at any Fair Trading Centre.
From 1 October 2013, it will be an offence to perform a body art tattooing procedure for a fee or reward or conduct a body art tattooing business without an appropriate licence and heavy penalties will apply.
