If you speak another language, we’re helping you join the NSW Police Force so you can serve, protect and strengthen the community you know best.
Be a Cop in your Community
Use your language, culture and community connection to make a real difference.
The Be a Cop in Your Community program is a NSW Police Force initiative designed to attract people from culturally diverse backgrounds to serve in the South West Metropolitan Region — one of the most multicultural areas in the state.
By joining the NSW Police Force, you’ll receive paid training, an attractive salary, job security, and more than 200 career pathways in one organisation. Most importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to support and protect the community you know best.
Why We’re Looking for You
Our communities are diverse — and we want our police to reflect that diversity. When officers speak the language, understand the culture, and know the people they serve, policing becomes more effective, more respectful and more trusted.
We’re seeking applicants who identify with one of our targeted cultural or language groups:
These communities are currently underrepresented within the NSW Police Force, especially in priority areas where culturally informed policing is needed most.
Where You Can Make an Impact
The Be a Cop in Your Community program is focused on four Priority Areas in the South West Metropolitan Region:
These Police Area Commands serve some of NSW’s most culturally and linguistically diverse neighbourhoods. By joining the program, you may be able to work close to home and use your cultural knowledge to help create safer, stronger communities.
What You’ll Get When You Join
Your culture is your strength.
If you speak another language and want to use your heritage and community connection to make a positive impact, we want to hear from you. You can help build trust, improve communication and support people when they need it most.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to live in a priority area to apply?
No. You do not need to currently live in a priority area, but you must be willing and able to work in one.
Will I receive support during the recruitment process?
Yes. Every applicant is assigned a dedicated Recruitment Case Manager. You must still meet all NSWPF entry requirements, but you will be guided through each stage.
Can I apply through the general recruitment pathway instead?
Yes. If you do not identify with one of the targeted language or cultural groups, you may apply via the general pathway.
Why is NSWPF focusing on culturally diverse applicants?
Because priority areas are highly multicultural. A police force that reflects the community improves communication, strengthens trust and delivers better policing outcomes.
Do I have to stay at the Police Academy in Goulburn?
It is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended for the best learning and training experience. Staying at the NSW Police Academy also fosters closer association with your fellow class members.
Will I need to repeat the physical testing at the Academy?
Physical capacity testing will be conducted in Week 1. Regular physical training sessions are delivered throughout the program in a highly supportive environment, with the aim of ensuring all students meet the mandatory physical testing standards prior to Attestation.
Can I choose my placement location?
As part of the Be a Cop in Your Community program, you will be placed in a priority area based on community needs and available positions. This helps ensure you can best support the community your skills are designed to serve.
