Study Modes
What are the entry requirements into the course?
- Successful completion of your Professional Suitability Application (PSA) direct with NSW Police Recruitment Branch. This includes successful completion of the Charles Sturt course UCWE
- 18 Years of age upon course commencement
- Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- A New Zealand citizen, you are eligible to apply for this course, however the NSW Police Website states that applicants must be an Australian citizen (by birth, naturalisation, or citizenship) or hold a current Australian Permanent Resident Visa (a Subclass 444 Special Category Visa is acceptable) to apply to join the NSW Police Force.
- Applicants not in Group 2 category for ELP requirements must have an Australian CERT IV qualification or higher, OR HSC completion OR IELTS (or similar band width of 7 in each category)
Applications must be made online, directly to Charles Sturt. Entry to the Associate Degree in Policing Practice is competitive and subject to the operational needs and priorities of the NSW Police Force.
How will I study?
There are two study modes available in the Associate Degree in Policing Practice (ADPP).
Option 1
Full-time (mixed-mode – KPOL)
- Session 1 is studied over 16 weeks, online
- Session 2 is studied over 16 weeks, on campus at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn, employed on a temporary fixed term arrangement
- Sessions 3, 4 and 5 are studied part-time, online, for 42 weeks, while working as a Probationary Constable.
Option 2
Part-time (online – EPOL)
- Session 1 is studied in two periods (Session 1a and Session 1b), over 32 weeks online
- Session 2 is studied over 16 weeks, on campus at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn, employed on a temporary fixed term arrangement.
- Sessions 3, 4 and 5 are studied part-time, online, for 42 weeks, while working as a Probationary Constable.
How much will it cost?
Rates and income thresholds quoted are as of 2024 and are subject to annual review.
Is there a cost for FEE-HELP?
Yes, there is a loan fee for the Associate Degree in Policing Practice if you choose to defer payment of your fees via FEE-HELP. You also have the option to pay you fees upfront.

What will I need while studying the Associate Degree in Policing Practice?
Students will require a computer or laptop with the following minimum applications or equivalent to participate in the Associate Degree in Policing Practice and to complete their assessments:
- Microsoft Office suite, capable of reading Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint
- Adobe Acrobat Reader - latest version
(The above two software programs are provided free of charge to students on the Charles Sturt website).
- Media player
- Headphones and/or speakers to listen to recorded learning content and to participate in online sessions
- Stable internet connectivity
- Zoom software
