Community Engagement is a long-term process through which the NSW Police Force involves individuals or groups in identifying problems and in shaping and implementing decisions and programs that affect them. Enabling community involvement in addressing community identified problems and police initiatives can enhance trust in and legitimacy of the police.

The Community Engagement Framework and Policy Statement was endorsed by the Commissioner in April 2018 and should be used by Police Area & Police District Commanders and their senior staff in planning their community engagement activities.
