External Information Access Unit

The External Information Access Unit has been established to provide a single point of contact for external parties to request information from the NSW Police Force (NSWPF), respond to requests for information in accordance with legislation and manage objections to the release of information when applicable.

In 2016 the EIAU processed in excess of 60,000 requests per year for NSWPF information under the following: Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), Subpoenas, Chapter 16A of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998, Working with Children and the Victims Support Scheme.

Information Requests

The EIAU has three key areas of responsibility:

Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPAA)

Manage the NSWPF compliance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (The GIPA Act), receipting, processing, coordinating responses to requests for information and making decisions as to the disclosure/non disclosure of NSWPF Information under the GIPA Act.

Subpoenas

Recording, processing, assessing and disseminating all valid criminal and civil Subpoenas issued to the Commissioner of Police NSW Police Force.

Coordinate the release of NSWPF holdings to external parties

Coordinate the release of NSWPF information to other designated government agencies in accordance with legislative requirements, such as Chapter 16A of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998, Working with Children and the Victims Support Scheme.
