Working Conditions

The NSW Police Force offers a very attractive salary and benefits package, which includes a starting salary of $ 65,000.00 (2014) plus six weeks annual leave.  Family friendly policies ensure a supportive environment, which caters for maternity, carer's, sick and compassionate leave.  There's also a range of other benefits such as further training, study leave, and the opportunity to follow one of over 100 specialist paths.

Salary

Starting salary as a Probationary Constable is around $ 65,000.00 + allowances in the first year, including some shift penalties.

Increments

Annual incremental progression through lower ranks to Senior Constable, including regular salary increases.

Placement Opportunities

NSW Police Recruits at the Academy have the opportunity to nominate five (5) preferred locations for placement.  We endeavor to employ police officers at the preferred location but the NSW Police Force must first meet operational field requirements, which will influence final placement.  However, you should be prepared to work anywhere within NSW.


Leave Entitlement

As a NSW Police Officer, you are entitled to various forms of leave.  Some examples of leave are:

  • Annual Leave (up to 6 weeks per year)
  • Family and Community Service Leave (FACS)
  • Sick Leave (15 days per year)
  • Leave Without Pay (where approved by Manager)
  • Extended Leave (long service leave)
  • Time in Lieu of Overtime

Promotional Opportunities

A merit based selection system exists for promotion to the rank of Sergeant and above.  Generally, officers are eligible for promotion to the rank of Sergeant after seven (7) years of service.  Opportunity also exists for eligible Senior Constables to be appointed to the rank of Leading Senior Constable.

Uniform & Equipment

The NSW Police Force provides all uniform and standard issue equipment, including new load bearing equipment vests and holsters.  NSW Police officers are required whilst on duty to carry a range of issued appointments including, Glock pistol, and conducted electricity weapon (TASER), OC (pepper) spray, baton and handcuffs.
