The NSW Police Force Aboriginal Employment Strategy 2009 - 2012 (PDF, 823KB) is central to our vision of being an employer of choice for Aboriginal people by the implementation of effective attraction and retention strategies. It aims to facilitate employment and career development opportunities in an environment which is supportive and inclusive for Aboriginal people. The Aboriginal Employment Strategy also aims to ensure that the knowledge and experience brought by Aboriginal recruits is used to improve policing services.

The Aboriginal Employment Strategy is aligned with broader NSW Government strategies to ensure that Aboriginal people in NSW are represented in the workforce in numbers at the very least commensurate with their representation in the general population.

The Strategy is underpinned by the recognition that the employment of Aboriginal people with specific knowledge and experience will significantly improve policing practices and thus crime prevention and management in the Aboriginal community.
