Aboriginal Recruitment
The New South Wales Police Force is an equal employment opportunity employer which also reflects its membership with the community it serves. As such, Aboriginal persons are encouraged and actively supported in applying to become members of the New South Wales Police Force.
Approximately 2% of persons employed by the New South Wales Police Force are of Aboriginal descent and it is hoped that this figure will increase further in the near future.
The New South Wales Police has developed an Aboriginal specific course with TAFENSW to assist Aboriginal persons in their quest to become a Police officer. The course specifically targets the skills required should a person be successful in attending the New South Wales Police College.
Other initiatives developed by the New South Wales Police Force to encourage Aboriginal persons to join are:
- Aboriginal Career Days
- Aboriginal Information Kit
- Aboriginal specific Tattoos and Stickers
- Aboriginal Recruitment officer
All these initiatives, along with a positive attitude by the organisation have slowly seen the number of Aboriginal persons applying and subsequently join increase.
If you are an Aboriginal person, are interested in joining and require any further information about the New South Wales Police Force, you are encouraged to contact the Aboriginal Recruitment Officer, Sergeant Steve LOWE on 1800 222 122.
