The Firearms Licensing Register allows licence holders to track the progress of a licence and permit application and check the current status and details of their licence and Permits to Acquire (PTA) via the internet.

Firearm Licence/Permit status descriptors displayed in the Register are as follows:

Note: To track the progress of an application submitted in Gun Safe it is recommended that applicants use the NSW Firearms Registry Customer Porta, which provides a more detailed update regarding the status of an application.

This facility will also be available to:

  • Firearm Dealers to check the validity of a licence and PTA prior to overseeing the acquisition and supply of a firearm. It is a requirement that dealers must not knowingly take part in a firearm transaction unless the parties are duly authorised and can verify and produce the appropriate documents.
  • A club official to check the current status, category, genuine reasons, expiry date and progress for the issue of a club member or visitor's firearm licence or minor's permit. Also, to assist club officials with the overall management and timely renewal of club member's firearms licences.
  • Provide the opportunity for certain Businesses to verify and confirm the validity of an employees' firearm licence and, in the case of Security Companies to ensure annual training commitments have been met before access to company firearms is allowed.
  • Allow Government Agencies to check and confirm the validity of a firearms licence in cases where employees need access to firearms or confirmation is required that a firearms licence is valid as a pre-requisite for administering statutory obligations.

The Firearms Registry collects and uses personal information in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act, 1998. We may also use and disclose personal information for purposes related or ancillary to the main reason it was collected to a third party deemed appropriate by the Commissioner. Additionally, any information obtained from this register should be dealt with in a manner consistent with the privacy legislation. The register does not display any personal details such as the licence holders name, address or date of birth, only licence and PTA details are displayed.
