Man in custody after barricade incident - Zetland

A man is under guard at hospital after a barricade situation in Zetland overnight.

Police were called to a unit on Grandstand Parade, about 9pm (Thursday 14 September 2017), responding to reports of a domestic incident.

Officers from Redfern Local Area Command arrived to find a man inside the home, allegedly armed with knives.

A woman and teenage child, who had left the home prior, were uninjured.

The man hid inside the unit and threatened officers.

A perimeter was established and specialist police were called to the scene to assist.

About 11.40pm, a man was taken into police custody and a number of knives secured.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Redfern Police Station before being taken to hospital under police guard, where he remains.

Inquiries are continuing.
