Woman charged as baby removed from hospital – Dubbo

Saturday, 07 Nov 2009 08:21am

A 27-year-old woman will face court today charged after a baby girl was removed from a hospital in the state’s central west yesterday.

It is alleged a woman removed her 11-day-old baby from the paediatric ward of the local hospital at Dubbo about 3.30pm. The child had been placed into care soon after she was born.

Hospital staff noticed the child missing about an hour later and raised the alarm.

A police investigation began immediately with a review of CCTV footage conducted.

Police attended a house in Orange where they found the baby and arrested a 27-year-old woman. The child was taken to Orange Base Hospital for further medical observation.

The woman was taken to Orange Police Station and was subsequently charged with take/detain child with intent to remove from parental control and breach of bail.

She was refused bail and is expected to appear in Orange Local Court later today.
