Man arrested, charged after police pursuit - Sydney's south west
Friday, 06 Nov 2009 02:42pmA man will face court today charged over a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west.
Police from Bankstown Local Area Command attempted to stop a black 1997-model Subaru Liberty sedan in Banks Street, Padstow, about 1am today to breathalyse the male driver; however, he allegedly failed to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated by officers.
They followed the Subaru from the Padstow CBD to Doyle Road, Revesby, where Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit.
The chase eventually ended when police surrounded the vehicle in nearby Glenview Avenue.
The 25-year-old Condell Park man was subdued with capsicum spray after allegedly trying to drive the vehicle towards the officers.
No one was injured in the incident but a Highway Patrol vehicle did sustain minor damage after the Subaru sedan rolled into it.
The man was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station for questioning before being charged with:
§ Drive Manner Dangerous;
§ Negligent driving;
§ Disqualified Driver;
§ Use weapon (car) to avoid apprehension;
§ Possess Prohibited Drug;
§ Deal with the proceeds of crime; and
§ State false particulars.
He’s been refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.
