***EDITORS NOTE: A photograph of the missing girl will be available later tonight by contacting the police media unit on 02 8263 6100***

Police are appealing for public assistance to locate a 12-year-old girl missing on the state’s central coast today.

Monique Payne has not been seen since she left a school on Clarence Street at Glendale, near Toronto, about midday today.

She is described as being about 150cm tall, with long brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing her school uniform - a blue and white chequered tunic.

It is possible that Monique may visit shopping centres in the suburbs of Glendale, Cardiff, Kotara or Charlestown.

Police have concerns for her welfare due to her young age.

Anyone who knows Monique’s whereabouts is urged to contact Toronto Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
