Serious assault and car theft – St Leonards

Police are appealing for public assistance following a serious assault and car theft at St Leonards on Sydney’s lower north shore.

About 1.25am last Wednesday (28 October 2009), two men arrived at the intersection of Herbert and Punch Streets to commence work. A short time later, the pair were approached by four men and allegedly assaulted.

The four men got into a white Toyota Corolla (NSW Reg. No. SSA-950) belonging to one of the workmen, and the vehicle was driven away.

The workmen contacted police and were taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment. One man suffered a broken jaw and a broken hand as a result of the attack.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the incident and police are appealing for public assistance.

In particular, investigators would like to speak with four men who may be able to assist with inquiries. The first man is described as being of white/European appearance, aged in his mid 20s, 193cm tall, of slight build, wearing a cap and t-shirt.

The second man has only been described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, and aged in his mid to late 20s. The third man has only been described as being of white / European appearance, and aged in early 20s, while the fourth man is undescribed.

Anyone with information about the identities or current whereabouts of the men, or who saw four males acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Herbert and Punch Streets at St Leonards around 1.25am last Wednesday (28 October 2009), is asked to contact Chatswood Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigators are also appealing for anyone to come forward with knowledge of the current whereabouts of a stolen white Toyota Corolla (NSW Reg. No. SSA-950).
