22 people arrested during Operation Vikings – Manning Great Lakes

Monday, 02 Nov 2009 01:39pm

Police have arrested 22 people during a Vikings high-visibility operation in the Manning Great Lakes Local Area Command over the weekend.

On Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, police from Manning Great Lakes Command’s Target Action Group, Detectives, Highway Patrol, Crime Management Unit and General Duties conducted high-visibility policing as part of a Vikings Operation.

As a result 17 males and five females were arrested, resulting in 34 charges including speeding; drink driving; possessing prohibited drugs, firearms and knives; larceny; resisting arrest; offensive language and breach of bail.

Police conducted 330 random breath tests, 45 person searches, 21 business inspections and 13 bail checks.

Manning Great Lakes Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Peter McKenna, said the operation was a success.

“The operation was a great success, resulting in drugs and weapons being taken off the streets. I applaud the excellent work police are doing,” Det Insp McKenna said.

“This is a reminder that police are in the community and are working hard to address crime.

“Crime prevention is our priority. Police respect people’s rights but will act promptly when the law is broken,” Det Insp McKenna warned.
