Woman struck by high-range drink-driver - Nelson Bay

A woman suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car, driven by a high-range drink-driver, in Nelson Bay overnight.

Shortly after midnight (Sunday 16 July 2017), a 25-year-old woman was walking west on Magnus Street when she was struck by a Mazda utility.

Following the collision, the Mazda crossed Magnus Street and struck the front of a home.

The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Mazda, a 43-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. He was breath tested at the scene and returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to Nelson bay Police Station where he returned an alleged reading of 0.170.

The Nelson Bay man was charged with high-range-drink driving and cause bodily harm by misconduct.

He is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 28 August 2018.
