Man assaulted near Newcastle

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted near Newcastle yesterday.

About 2.30am yesterday (Friday 14 July 2017), a 35-year-old man left a hotel on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, with friends.

An argument broke out with another man on Cleary Street and the 35-year-old man was assaulted.

He suffered head injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police have been told the man who may be able to assist with inquiries is of Caucasian appearance, in his 20s and was wearing jeans, a white t-shirt and black jacket at the time.

Police attached to the Newcastle City Local Area Command are appealing for any witnesses to the assault to come forward.
