Man charged with attempted murder after alleged hammer attack - Wee Waa

Police have charged a man with attempted murder following the alleged serious assault of another man in the state’s west.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 13 June 2017), police were called to a licenced premises on Rose Street, Wee Waa, following reports a man was in allegedly in possession of a firearm.

A short time later, emergency services were called to a business on Culgoora Road, Wee Waa, following reports an assault.

It will be alleged two men, aged 37 and 57 were involved in an altercation, when the younger man struck the older man in the head with a hammer and wrench, before fleeing the scene.

The 57-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Narrabri Hospital in critical condition.

Following inquires, Police from Barwon Local Area Command returned to the licensed premises and a perimeter was established.

About 6pm the 37-year-old man was taken into account without incident, and a firearm was seized.

The man was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station, where he was charged with attempted murder.

He was refused bail to and is due to appear at Moree Local Court today (Wednesday 14 June 2017).
