Man charged with nine armed robberies of taxis - Inner Sydney

A man has been charged with nine alleged armed robberies of taxi drivers following investigations by Sydney City Detectives.

Police were called to two armed robberies on taxis on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 May 2017, in the Ultimo area. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash was stolen.

About 10pm on Wednesday (7 June 2017), police were called to the armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo. A knife was allegedly produced and cash was stolen.

Police were called to three armed robberies of taxi drivers on Thursday (8 June 2017) in the Glebe and Ultimo areas. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash and property was stolen.

About 8.10pm on Friday (9 June 2017), the attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver in Ultimo was reported to police. A knife was allegedly produced, however there were no proceeds.

In two separate incidents yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2017), two armed robberies of taxi drivers in the Surry Hills area were reported to police. During these incidents a knife was allegedly produced and cash and property was stolen.

Officers from Sydney City Detectives investigated the incidents and believed them to be related.

Just before 9.45pm yesterday (Saturday 10 June 2017), a 20-year-old man attended Day Street Police Station and spoke to detectives.

The man was arrested and charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon (x3), aggravated assault with intent to rob and inflict actual bodily harm (x4), demand property with menaces with intent to steal, and dishonestly obtain financial advantage.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Sunday 11 June 2017).
