Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was located following a suspicious house fire at Parkes earlier this week, have formed a strike force.

About 11.40am on Monday (5 June 2017), police from Lachlan Local Area Command responded to reports of a fire at a unit block on Grenfell Street, Parkes.

The fire was extinguished by fire fighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, with two units in the complex sustaining significant damage.

The body of a 71-year-old man was located inside one of the damaged units.

The resident of the other unit, a 38-year-old man, was also treated at the scene before being taken to Orange Health Service for assessment.

A crime scene was established and investigators now believe that the man’s death is suspicious.

Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Property Crime Squad’s Arson Unit, have established Strike Force Lynjohn to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Police are appealing for anyone that may have seen any unusual or suspicious activity in the vicinity of the unit complex on Monday morning to come forward.

Investigators are particularly keen to locate any video footage recording the incident.
