Police investigate the armed robbery of three taxis - Inner Sydney

Police are appealing for information after the armed robbery of three taxi drivers in Sydney’s inner suburbs yesterday.

In the first incident, just before 6.30am (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 33, stopped on Bay Street, Glebe and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe Street.

Upon arriving, the man produced a knife and threatened the driver, demanding money.

The taxi driver complied and the man fled with his wallet.

The taxi driver was uninjured.

About 8pm (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 29, stopped at the intersection of Broadway and Bay Street, Ultimo, and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe.

The taxi driver was directed to stop on Jones Street and the man produced a knife, threatening the driver and demanding money.

The man stabbed the taxi driver causing a laceration to his lip.

The man took a wallet and backpack, as the taxi driver was able to get out and run off. The man fled with his wallet.

The taxi driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.

In the third incident, just before 11pm (Thursday 8 June 2017), a taxi driver, aged 40, stopped at the intersection of Pitt and Goulburn Streets, Haymarket, and picked up a man who directed him to Glebe Street.

Upon arriving, the man produced a knife and threatened the driver, demanding money.

The taxi driver handed over cash and the man demanded his wallet.

During an altercation, the taxi driver sustained a laceration to his hand before the man fled.

The taxi driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Sydney Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Leichhardt and Sydney City Local Area Commands have launched an investigation and would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist.

The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 20-30 years old, about 175-185cm tall, of a slim build, with brown/blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a grey hooded zip-up jumper, and grey pants with side pockets.

Based on the information at hand, investigators believe the incidents are linked to the robbery in Ultimo on Wednesday (7 June 2017).
