Man charged after stabbing incident - Murwillumbah

A man will face court today following an altercation where a man died and two other men were injured at Murwillumbah yesterday.

About 12.30pm (Tuesday 6 June 2017), police and emergency services attended Knox Park in Brisbane Street after receiving reports of people fighting.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended and located three injured men suffering stab wounds.

A 46-year-old man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital where he later died.

An 18-year-old man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital. He remains in a critical condition suffering wound to his chest.

Another man, aged 29, was taken to Murwillumbah Hospital suffering minor injuries. He has since been released from hospital.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man at the scene and he was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

Following inquiries, he was charged with murder, wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm x2 and Larceny.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today (Wednesday 7 June 2017).

Investigations are continuing.
