Man charged after house fire - Waratah

A man will appear in court today following a house fire at Waratah last month.
About 6.15am (Sunday 14 May 2017), police were called to a home which was well alight on Ada Street.
Fire & Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. The property sustained significant damage as a result of the fire.
No persons were in the home at the time.
A crime scene was established which was examined by forensic specialists.
Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command commenced an investigation into the fire and about 9.20am yesterday (Tuesday 6 June 2017), officers arrested a 31-year-old man.
He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with malicious damage by fire x2.
The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 7 June 2017).
