Police charge two after drugs discovered in car - Surry Hills

Police have charged two men with several offences relating to drug supply and driving offences after they were arrested in Surry Hills overnight.

About 9.25pm on Friday 2 June 2017, officers from the Surry Hills Local Area Command proactive team observed two men in a Toyota Corolla on Crown Street.

Police will allege that the vehicle stopped and another man entered the vehicle where a drug transaction took place.

The officers approached the vehicle identified themselves and opened the driver’s door. The driver immediately accelerated away with the female police officer still holding the door open.

The officer called on the driver to stop the car but he continued at speed and she had to let go to avoid injury.

Additional officers in a vehicle attempted to stop the vehicle which continued to accelerate away and crossed to the incorrect side of the road.

The vehicle was eventually stopped on Crown Street and both men were arrested and the vehicle was searched.

Police will allege they located 16 individual bags of Cocaine and more than $1700 cash.

The 20-year-old driver of the car was charged with supply prohibited drug, deal in property suspected proceeds of crime, use weapon to avoid apprehension and drive in a manner dangerous to the public.

The 18-year-old passenger was charged with supply prohibited drug and deal in property suspected proceeds of crime.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 3 June 2017).
