Cyclist dies after crash - Byron Bay

Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash on the state’s north coast earlier this week.

About 12.30pm (Monday 3 July 2017) a 70-year-old man was riding his pushbike east on Bangalow Road, Byron Bay.

When he was about 650 meters from the intersection with Coopers Shoot Road the cyclist has come off his bike and impacted heavily with the road.

Emergency services were contacted and the man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition.

Officers from Richmond Crash Investigation Unit attended and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

About 4pm yesterday (Tuesday 4 July 2017) the 70-year-old man died in hospital.

Police are urging any witnesses, who have not yet provided their details to police, to come forward.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
