Man charged over suspicious house fire - Parkes

A man has been charged following the death of a man whose body was located following a suspicious house fire at Parkes last month.

About 11.40am on Monday 5 June 2017, police from Lachlan Local Area Command responded to reports of a fire at a unit block on Grenfell Street, Parkes.

The fire was extinguished by fire fighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, with two units in the complex sustaining significant damage.

The body of a 71-year-old man was located inside one of the damaged units.

The resident of the other unit, a 38-year-old man, was also treated at the scene before being taken to Orange Health Service for assessment.

Local detectives, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Property Crime Squad’s Arson Unit, established Strike Force Lynjohn to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Today (Tuesday 4 July 2017), the man was released from hospital and taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with murder, and two counts of damage property by fire.

He appeared at Orange Local Court today (Tuesday 4 July 2017) and was refused bail to reappear at Parkes Local Court on Friday (7 July 2017).
