Man charged after police pursuit - Wollongong

Police have charged a man after a police pursuit in Wollongong overnight.

About 10.25pm (Sunday 2 July 2017), officers attached to Wollongong Local Area Command were patrolling Hillcrest Avenue, Woonona, when they attempted to stop a white Holden Commodore for a breath test.

The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued through the suburbs of Woonona to Bulli, before the Holden Commodore collided with a marked police vehicle.

The pursuit continued through Bellambi, before it was terminated due to safety concerns.

Acting on information, officers attended an address on Popes Road, Woonona, and arrested a 27-year-old man.

A search of the premises allegedly located methamphetamine and cannabis and the Holden Commodore, believed to be involved in the pursuit.

The drugs were seized and will undergo forensic analysis.

The man was taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing, before being taken to Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with drive whilst disqualified, breach of bail, drive manner dangerous – police pursuit (Skye’s Law), fail to stop, common assault, and stealing which relates to another incident.

The 27-year-old was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 3 July 2017).
