A man will face court this afternoon after being charged with the alleged murder of a man in Sydney's south-west last year.

Just after 9.20am on Tuesday 25 October 2016, emergency services were called to Sturt Avenue, Georges Hall, following reports of shots fired.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and located 29-year-old Hamad Assaad with multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite the best efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, Mr Assaad died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad established Strike Force Pippa to investigate Mr Assaad’s death.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives, assisted by Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad, executed a search warrant at a home at Greenacre, just after 6am today (Thursday 29 June 2017).

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with murder and participate in a criminal group.

He has been refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court later today.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Pippa investigators to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
