Police search for escapee - Long Bay

Police are seeking assistance to help locate an escapee from a correctional facility at Malabar this morning.

David Mellis, 50, was reported missing from a minimum security area within the complex on Anzac Parade shortly after 11am today (Wednesday 28 June 2017).

A search was launched when a head check detected his absence and police were notified.

Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command are coordinating a search for the man.

David Mellis is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170 to 175cm tall, of medium build, with grey hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing a high-visibility vest and prison greens and is known to frequent the Glebe area.

Anyone who sees the escapee or who knows of his whereabouts should contact Triple Zero immediately.
