A man will face court after allegedly assaulting the owner of a car he was trying to break into.

About 10.40pm last night (Sunday 25 June 2017), a 22-year-old man came outside of his house on Farmingdale Drive, Blacktown, and saw a man standing near his car that was parked in the driveway.

He noticed items had been moved about the car and confronted the man.

A struggle broke out, before the 22-year-old was assisted by family and neighbours to detain the man until the arrival of police.

The man, aged 44, was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station, where he was charged with steal from motor vehicle, enter vehicle without consent of owner, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail, to appear before Blacktown Local Court on 1 August 2017.

The younger man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries but declined to go to hospital.
