Police officer charged - Central Metropolitan Region

A police officer will face court today following an investigation by Professional Standards Command.

The officer from the Central Metropolitan Region was charged yesterday (Wednesday 31 May 2017), following investigations into alleged misconduct in public office.

An investigation was commenced in January this year following reports the officer allegedly accessed restricted data on a police computer and used communication equipment to commit serious indictable offences.

About 1.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 31 May 2017), a 28-year-old Constable was arrested at a home in Menai.

A subsequent search warrant located assorted electronic devices and ammunition.

All items were secured for forensic analysis.

The man was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with several offences including:

- Misconduct in public office;

- Use communication equipment to commit serious indictable offence;

- Use carriage service to menace / harass / offend (x6);

- Stalking and harassment (x4); and

- Possess ammunition without licence (x2)

He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 1 June 2017).
