Man charged with firearm possession - Wollongong

A man has been charged with firearm and drug possession following a search of his vehicle in Mangerton, near Wollongong, yesterday.

About 3.40pm (Monday 29 May 2017) officers from Wollongong Local Area Command pulled a blue BMW over on Myuna Way and spoke to the two occupants.

A search of the vehicle was conducted where police allegedly located a shortened .22 rifle, a magazine containing ammunition, and a small amount of drugs believed to be ‘ice’, cannabis and heroin.

The 40-year-old driver was charged at Wollongong Police Station with possess shortened firearm, possess ammunition, and possess prohibited drug (x3).

He was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 30 May 2017).

The second man was interviewed and released without charge.
