Appeal for members of the public to come forward after helping victim of alleged break and enter – Warilla
Sunday, 08 Nov 2009 05:33amPolice are appealing for two members of the public to come forward after they helped the victim of an alleged break and enter, which resulted in a man being charged in the State’s Illawarra region yesterday.
About 9.30pm a man allegedly forced entry into a home in Shellharbour Road, Warilla, before demanding money from the 85-year-old male occupant.
The occupant said he didn’t have any money before the alleged intruder ransacked the home.
While the intruder was rummaging, the occupant left his house, went out into the street and flagged down a passing motorist.
The motorist assisted by calling police from a nearby hotel.
During this time the alleged offender left the home before police arrested a man nearby a short time later.
A 29-year-old local man was taken to Port Kembla Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
Police are appealing for the passing motorists that helped the victim, a man and a woman, to contact them to assist with investigations. They were driving a white Mitsubishi Triton utility.
The man and woman, or anyone who knows of them, is urged to contact Warilla Police on 4295 2699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
