Appeal in unsolved homicide - Yamba

Sunday, 08 Nov 2009 09:53am

Police are renewing their public appeal to assist with the unsolved homicide of a 16-year-old girl in the lead up to a coronial inquiry about her death.

Lee Stace, who was 16-years-old at the time, was last seen alive in the small northern coastal town of Yamba on Tuesday 2 September 1997, when she left her workplace at a local supermarket on Yamba Road near Treelands Drive.

Her remains were found six weeks later in a secluded national park camping ground at Redcliff, a short distance from where she lived with her family.

Police believe that she was murdered at that spot, most probably within hours of her last known sighting.

Strike Force Delaware was established to investigate the death of Lee Stace, however at this stage nobody has been charged.

The coronial inquiry begins tomorrow (November 9) at Grafton Local Court and is expected to run for two weeks.

Anyone who may have seen Lee on or around Tuesday 2 September 1997, or has any information regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, is urged to contact Grafton Detectives on 6642 0222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
