Drowning – Coffs Harbour

Thursday, 05 Nov 2009 05:26am

Police officers from the Coffs Harbour Local Area Command will prepare a report for the Coroner following the drowning of a 27-year-old man at a beach yesterday.

Shortly after 5pm on Wednesday 4 November emergency services were called to Red Rock Beach, north of Coffs Harbour.

Police believe that a group of people had been swimming and riding body boards at the beach when one of the men was washed into a rip.

An off-duty lifeguard was able to pull the man from the water and onto his surfboard. He paddled to a rock formation and, after raising the alarm, commenced resuscitation.

The man, a Korean national, could not be revived.

Police from Coffs Harbour Local Area Command will prepare a report outlining the full circumstances of the incident for the information of the Coroner.
