Lost Property

Lost item(s) of any value which have been lost with New South Wales can be reported online.

With the following exceptions:

  • Firearm(s)
  • Explosive(s)
  • Prescription medication or drugs

If you have lost a firearm(s), explosive(s) or prescription medication or drugs please contact your local Police Station immediately.

What Lost Property can I report online?

You can report most Lost Property online. However the following are an exception:

  • Motor Vehicles
  • Marine Craft
  • Firearms
  • Explosives
  • Chemicals
  • Prescription Drugs

What should I do if I find my Lost Property?

If your property has been found, please contact your Local NSW Police Station or alternatively, contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.

What if I don't have all the information requested when creating my lost property online report?

You can enter as much detail as you have available. The more detail you are able to include about a property item increases the possibility of getting your item returned should police locate it.

Does the NSW Police Force investigate lost property?

The NSW Police do not investigate Lost Property.

If an item is located or handed to the NSW Police and matches the description within your report, we will contact you.

Can I create a report for Lost Property if occurred outside of NSW?

For property that is lost interstate, it is recommended these reports are submitted in the state where the incident occurred in. The NSW Police Force Community Portal can accept Lost Property reports that occur interstate, but as a record only.
