Spiked Drinks

What is a spiked drink?

It is when either alcohol or drugs (either prescription or non-prescription) is added to your drink without your consent or knowledge.

NOTE: You may not see or taste the difference!!

What are some of the dangers?

  • Sexual assault, rape
  • Unsafe sex
  • Assault
  • Robbery
  • Hospitalisation from extreme symptoms such as respiratory problems or collapse.
  • Other opportunistic crimes such as extortion, identity theft etc.

How do you know if your drink is spiked?

  • You may feel dizzy or faint
  • You may feel sick or sleepy
  • You may feel very drunk after only one or two drinks

How to decrease the risk of spiked drinks:

  • Don't leave your drinks unattended
  • Buy your own drinks and know what you are drinking
  • Watch your drink being made (if possible)
  • Don't accept drinks from anyone you don't know and trust
  • Watch out - Look after your friends


If you think that your drink has been spiked, report the incident to the local Police or call 000.
