Summary of Commander's Presentation

1. MEETING OPENED BY SUPT CAREY

Meeting Opened 11.30am. Welcomed everyone. Briefly discussed issues regarding re-organising after summer. Planning for Summer 06/07. Financially command is doing well. We are expecting a class of Probationary Constables in September and January. All senior vacancies have been filled.

2. INTELLIGENCE PRESENTATION BY S/SGT PETERS

Crime has decreased in all crime categories across the LAC except for SFMV. We recently had 3 good arrests who are known offenders for SFMV, so a decrease will hopefully be seen soon.

Our Proactivity patrols are down, due to the loss of the green hats (CBD High Visibility Policing Unit).

Assaults are mainly occurring in George St CBD/Haymarket area is down from summer figures.

Break & Enters occurring in CBD/Ultimo and Pyrmont area still remain 50% residential and 50% commercial.

Robberies occurring in CBD/Ultimo and are at their lowest level in 12 months.

Stealing's in CBD/Haymarket area. Thieves are targeting cinema strip and shopping centres. Steal from motor vehicles are a concern, mainly in car parks in Ultimo/Haymarket area.

Malicious Damage is mainly alcohol related and occurring in CBD on weekends.

3. GENERAL OVERVIEW

Supt Carey discussed the commitments for World Cup. That there will be a live site in Belmore Park, as well as extended trading hours for numerous licensed premises.

There will be specific operations targeting alcohol related offences for the large crowds expected to attend licensed premises within the command.

The CBD is very busy with an increase in events/functions in City Central LAC, this is good for the CBD, however brings on challenges for the LAC. There is an ever increasing population residing in the command overnight, with 21 000 permanent residents and 150 000 temporary residents.
