Wool, Hide and Skin Dealers Act 2004

The Wool, Hide and Skin Dealers Act 2004, came into effect on September 1 2004, to more effectively and fairly regulate those who carry on the business of dealing (buying or selling) in the wool, hides and skins of livestock.

Importantly, the NSW Police Force has been given responsibility for the complete administration of the Act since it was enacted in September 2004. This means that all dealers need to apply to the Commissioner for Police to obtain and renew their licences.

Applications

The Application for licence under the Wool, Hide and Skin Dealers Act 2004 (P801 WHS Form 1, PDF) and a copy of the Act can be downloaded from this site or obtained in person from your local police station.

The completed form should be lodged at the nearest police station with two forms of evidence of identity.

Applications should be marked to the attention of the Rural Crime Investigator who will then undertake background/probity checks to determine whether a person or corporate entity is entitled to hold a licence.

A licence remains in force for a period of three (3) years after the date of its grant, unless it is cancelled or suspended under this Act before that time. The Application for licence under the Wool, Hide and Skin Dealers Act 2004 (P801 WHS Form 1, PDF) also serves as the renewal form so dealers should complete and submit this not less than 14 days before the expiry of the existing licence.
