The VIP program is currently full and unable to accept new applications at this stage. Thank you for your interest and keep checking back on this page to see when we'll be seeking new VIPs.
How do I join?
If you would like to join as a Volunteer in Policing:
- You will need to contact the Crime Prevention Officer at your Local Area Command for an application form.
- Further information about the VIP Program can be obtained from the VIP Coordinator on (02) 8835 9545 or email vip@police.nsw.gov.au
- Once you are accepted into the program you will have a record check and fingerprinting check.
- You will need to sign a confidentiality agreement.
- Once the application and the checks are finalised you will be contacted by the Crime Prevention Officer to confirm your availability.
Volunteers are provided with insurance cover while working in volunteer programs sponsored by the NSW Police Force. The benefits of this cover are the same as the workers compensation scheme provided to employees. There are two major requirements for the cover to apply:
- The claimant must actually be involved in the VIP program at the time of the incident which is the subject of the claim; and
- No illegal activity is being engaged in at the time of the incident, which is the subject of the claim.
As soon as a volunteer is accepted into the program, cover takes effect automatically.
For further information you can contact the Crime Prevention Officer at your Local Area Police Command or you can contact the State Coordinator for Volunteers in Policing on (02) 8835 9545 or email to vip@police.nsw.gov.au
