The NSW Government has used the Missing Persons television program to announce a $100,000 reward to catch and convict those responsible for the abduction of Sydney toddler Rahma El-Dennaoui.
19 month old Rahma was snatched from a bedroom in her family's Lurnea home between the hours of 2am and 8am on November 10, 2005.
Acting Police Minister Kristina Keneally said it was one of the state's most puzzling cases - comparable in some respects to the case of missing UK toddler Madeleine McCann, which has sparked numerous international appeals.
"Police believe Rahma's abductors sliced a U-shape out of a fly screen on her bedroom window and snatched her as her two older sisters slept alongside her," Ms Keneally said.
"Making the appeal on the Missing Persons television program allows the NSW Government's reward to be covered not only nationally, but also internationally.
"Someone in either Australia or possibly Lebanon, where Rahma's family is from, must know who kidnapped her.
"It is hoped that the $100,000 reward will help break down the walls of silence."
Ms Keneally said Strike Force ‘Kilt' was established following Rahma's disappearance, and despite numerous enquiries police have so far been unable to determine who took her.
"There are no strong leads in this case and that's why the NSW Government, at the request of police, have issued this big money reward," Ms Keneally said.
"Rahma has sisters and brothers who, along with their parents Hosayn and Alyaa, have been devastated by this tragic event.
"There is simply no explanation for what happened and despite the persistent efforts of police there are very few leads.
"The $100,000 NSW Government reward will be available to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Rahma's abduction.
"The Iemma Government is backing police with the funding and support needed to solve serious crime and lock up dangerous criminals.
"The El-Dennaoui family deserve answers but Police need the public's help if they are going to locate Rahma and solve this mystery."
