Police Minister Tony Kelly today announced the NSW Government is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the location of Bill Roach.
Mr Kelly said that Bill Roach, a resident of Sunnyvale near Armidale, disappeared on New Year's Eve, 1993. An inquest into Mr Roach's disappearance will begin in the Glen Innes Coroner's Court on Thursday, 3 September, in front of Coroner Michael Holmes.
"While the investigation into Bill Roach's disappearance has been hampered by the passing of time, there has been relatively recent clues that have given the family hope.
"Commencing in 2003 anonymous information shedding new light into the disappearance of Mr Roach has been received by police.
"Following from this information Strike Force Annan was formed, comprised of the relevant officers from the New England Local Area Command to investigate his disappearance.
"Strike Force Annan's extensive investigations uncovered several lines of inquiry and identified persons of interest not known about in the original enquiry.
"However this investigation was suspended when all current leads were exhausted.
"Bill Roach's family deserves closure on his disappearance.
"His mother Yvonne Roach has been involved in the search for her son since his disappearance in 1993, and continues in that search.
"Her work in the search has led her to become a leading advocate for Missing Persons Week.
"Rewards like this are important to catch the public's attention as well as providing incentive for people to provide information for investigations.
"Families are understandably devastated when family members go missing, often presumed murdered, and they deserve our support and help.
"I encourage anyone with any information about this case, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to contact their local Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
