The NSW Government today announced that a $100,000 reward would be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the disappearance and presumed murder of Lynette Dawson.

Minister for Police Michael Daley said the 33 year old mother of two went missing on or around the 9th of January 1982.

Mrs Dawson spoke to her mother on the evening of January 8th while at home with her husband, Christopher Dawson.

She made plans to have lunch with her mother the following day at Northbridge Baths, but did not show up.

She was reported missing on February 18th 1982 by her husband Christopher Dawson at Mona Vale Police Station.

"By all accounts, Lynette was a devoted mother to two girls, who were aged four and two at the time of her disappearance," Mr Daley said.

"She was also extremely close to her parents and three siblings and it is considered unlikely that she would have voluntarily left them.

"None of her possessions were believed to have been taken when she disappeared, including her glasses or contact lenses which she would have required.

"Leaving of her own accord would also have been difficult as she did not have a driver's license, and her part-time work would not have been enough to financially support herself.

"Her two little girls have grown up without a mother. They and Lynette's siblings have lived for the past 28 years not knowing what happened to her.

"Her mother and father have passed away without knowing what happened to their daughter.

"They deserve closure and the person responsible deserves to be bought to justice," he said.

Detective Sergeant Damian Loone said that every piece of information is vital, even the smallest amount of information pieces together the jigsaw puzzle.

"Someone out there knows what happened and I plead to their conscience to come forward and help solve this terrible crime," he said.

"Lynn's family deserve to finally put Lynn to peace and see justice brought against the person responsible."
