NSW Police Band

ESTABLISHED 1895

The NSW Police Band is the longest standing concert band in Australia serving the State and people of New South Wales since 1895.

The band is a full-time unit of the NSW Police currently comprising four Police Officers and twenty nine professional musicians employed as Special Constables.

The band engages in high profile activities and has performed for many Royal occasions, two Papal visits, Presidents of America and China as well as Heads of State and dignitaries from virtually every nation of the world.

Due to the varied and flexible nature of band activities, a thirty three piece concert band with vocalist performs at outdoor concerts, major recitals, concerts at schools and nursing homes, and collaborates extensively with charitable organisations.

The band functions as a marching band for ceremonial and parade activities. Parades include Police graduations and award ceremonies, State Government protocol events, Anzac Day and Remembrance Day.  The band has also performed at numerous 'Ticker Tape' parades for the Australian Cricket, Hockey and Rugby Union teams, and Commonwealth and Olympic athletes.

The Band and NSW Mounted Police combine regularly to perform the famous Police 'Musical Rides', a major attraction at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

A highly entertaining stage band known as the Police Big Band has performed with leading Jazz artists and for quieter occasions a number of smaller chamber music groups are available.

The NSW Police Band is a high-profile public relations unit of NSW Police supporting community and multicultural based Policing activities throughout the Sydney metropolitan and country areas, helping to forge stronger links between the Police and the people of New South Wales.
