Rotary Clubs of NSW Volunteer of the Year
A) Finalist: VIP Elizabeth Bolton, Eastwood LAC
Ms Bolton joined the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program in January 1997 after meeting another VIP.
Assisting police at the community level gives me great satisfaction. Completing shifts at big events like APEC and the Forbes Conference is always an achievement, as is knowing that police trust me to carry out any designated tasks that are required. Being nominated for this award is totally amazing. I am so surprised that I have been given this honour and my family is delighted.

B) Finalist: VIP Jacqueline Scowcroft, Operational Programs Command
Mrs Scowcroft said she joined to give something back to the police after her youngest daughter was taken from their house in January 1991. "The police were wonderful," she said. I enjoy the friends we have made over the years. And seeing a different side of the police - seeing that they're human. One of my most significant moments was working at the Olympics and Paralympics in 2000, and at World Youth Day. To be a good VIP you need a sense of humour and the willingness to try different things. It is an honour to be finalist for the award and it's great that people think enough of us to nominate us. I hope to be a VIP for as long as I can, and to improve my computer skills!

C) Finalist: VIP Stephen Scowcroft, Operational Programs Command
Mr Scowcroft was inspired to join the VIP program in 1991 after police assisted in the abduction of his daughter, who was later returned unharmed. I thoroughly enjoy being able to do something different every day. I particularly enjoyed working at the Olympics and Paralympics Games and the weeks leading up to World Youth Day. I believe, to be a good VIP, you need self discipline, a sense of responsibility and a sense of humour. Honoured and very surprised at being a finalist for the award.

Winner
D) Finalist: Iris-May Vanden Berg VIP, Parramatta LAC
Ms Vanden Berg joined the VIP program in 1999 after retiring early due to cancer. I enjoy contributing to the community, the friendships I have formed and the support, encouragement and acceptance of NSWPF staff. I love my duties at the Children's Hospital Westmead, which allow me to provide some emotional support to the families of sick children. One of my most memorable moments was being introduced in State Parliament in May 2009 for my contribution as a VIP and being presented with my 10 year service pin. I feel humbled to be nominated for the award. I have always seen myself as just doing my little bit where required. I am so excited and honoured.
